You make me feel like dancin' ( i wanna dance the night away)

No particular reason for the title. It's just the song that's in my head this morning. Who knows why?

Whew! This week, I helped a 7th baby into the world. Seven babies in four months. I'm ever so glad to be taking some time off. I don't have another baby due until late August.

And that baby - lemme tell ya, has been an interesting journey from the get-go. ;)

The Mom, (I'll call her, Lucia) is gorgeous. I mean GORGEOUS. A Hispanic 'Barbie', for lack of a better way to describe her. She's 7 months, but convinced she's the largest woman on the planet - and she's SOOOOO not. She looks about 4-5 months, tops. Here - you be the judge: belly

Is she crazy or what?? She's beautiful! :) Of course, I think ALL pregnant bellies are beautiful. But, I digress....

This last baby was a lesson for me. Hoo boy....a "ha! you think you have control over ANYthing?" kinda lesson. (Lesson learned, god - lets move on. ;) )

And although she'll likely never read this, I gotta say - to my backup doula, Kate - You ROCK. I could not have asked for a better person to step in and support this family. They (and exhausted I) needed you, and you were there. In a 'pay it forward' fashion. Unbelievable. I am so blessed to have friends like you. I am forever grateful.

Beyond Babies.....

Yes, the closing of Tangerine was a very sad night for us all. And strangely enough, I was on-call for a baby that night (and had to leave at 12:30 because of it). I swear, that was the biggest damned crowd I ever saw at Tangerine - and Zo and I have been going for a lotta years. All we can hope is that someone, anyone, will re-open Tange so we don't have to go on a Diva-Search for a new haunt.

Gotta get kiddo his breakfast & take him to day camp (it's swim day!). Will write again soon.

Diva-love to all,

Vi

The Mourning Begins.

I guess it's really the only thing that could bring me out of my hiatus - the closing of our home away from home, Tangerine.

Where will we go? Who will mix up Johnny Blogfodder The Cocktail for us? Will the free cocktails flow as easily some where else? Oh dear. And all the friends we've made in the 8 years of visiting. I guess, dear Vi, we should start by finding out where Mix Master Matt will be moving on to.

I'm definitely going to have to wear black for the next 30 days. And if I had a flag that lowered, I'd lower it. I know, it probably sounds more drama queen around here than diva, but think of Norm and Cliff losing Cheers. It's just not right.

Oh, but we'll march on in our sassy diva attire. Just where, I have no idea. We'll let you know.

And to give you a compact Zoe update since I've been MIA for so long -

I've been busy as Vi has noted on several occassions. I've started my own business and the hours can be pretty crazy trying to build this little thing I'm so passionate about. I've also done a little traveling and so on.

I hope all of you out there in blog land are well.

Until we meet again,

Zoe

NOOOOOOOOOO!

It is with a heavy heart that I announce that this Saturday, June 12 - on it's 8th anniversary - our beloved Tangerine will close its doors for the last time.

So please, if you're in the area, stop by and have a martini at our favorite place in Saint Louis.

I'd write more, but I have to go cry in my pillow now.

Diva-Bereavingly Yours,

Vi

Baby Update:

Doula-client (and Awesome Mama) Marie gave birth to Braxton yesterday around 4:30 p.m. He's 8 lbs., 12 oz!

Induced at 6:30 a.m.

I arrived at 9:00

Marie was on pitocin and at 12:30, was only at 3cm, so I arranged for childcare (and puppy care), just in case....

On my way back to the hospital, I got a call from John, her husband..."She says her pain is a 7 out of 10, and she's really hurting."

When I got into the room, we helped her through a few more contractions, checked her (4cm) - Marie asked for an epidural.

20 minutes later, she was at 7cm.

20 minutes later, she was at 10cm.

30 minutes later, that beautiful baby boy was born!

Healthy Mom, healthy Baby, happy, tearful Daddy.....what a wonderful moment! Mom said it was exactly as she wanted it to be.

It was the first birth I'd ever attended where not a single member of the hospital staff made an insipid or disparaging comment. (yay!)

What a day - even the doctor and nurse hugged me - and that NEVER happens.

I love my job.
